According to 4/14 report from Publisher’s Weekly (click here to see full article), 764,448 titles were produced in 2009 by self-publishers and micro-niche publishers, while traditional books produced another 288,355 last year, for a grand total of well over a million new titles.
To stand out in the competitive marketplace, more authors are turning to social networking that’s targeted to connect with readers via a slew of social media sites devoted to books and writers, including Shelfari, Goodreads, LibraryThing, RedRoom, SheWrites and more.
These sites allow you to show off profiles, build audiences, and find the readers who are most likely to read your words. But more, they allow you to build connections to your audience in a meaningful way. Statistics show that readers are seeking affinity to authors more than pure subject matter.
